Zebra mussels return to Kansas

Zebra mussels turn up again in Kansas, this time in Sumner County at Wellington Lake. Those are an invasive species that tend to hitch a ride on boats taken from one lake to another. They’re particularly problematic because they cling to intake valves underwater and clog them up. The state claims in 2012, Council Grove and Osage City experienced temporary water shortages from zebra mussel infestations.
