The Occupational Safety and Health Administration arrives in Trego County to investigate the death of a worker who fell off a phone tower. The case does appear to be an accident. The coroner is working up his report on the death, which happened just off CC Road between U.S. 283 and 26th Avenue.
A former Montgomery County man pleaded guilty to killing a southeast Kansas woman and her three children in 2013. The Kansas Attorney General’s office says that man who used to live in Cherryvale, pleaded guilty to capital murder and three counts of first-degree premeditated murder. The case involved the death of a mom and three kids in Parsons.
A homeless man who was found badly burned in a field near Salina apparently started a fire to stay warm and then fell asleep, according to law enforcement. Sheriff Roger Soldan says he was found unconscious by firefighters who responded to a fire just north of Salina. Authorities found a lighter nearby and believe he was the one who started the fire.
Bond, set at $150,000 for a man in Pratt County who allegedly was carrying 10.5 pounds of meth in his car. It was found during a traffic stop. Investigators estimate the drugs are worth $404-thousand on the street.
The U.S. Supreme Court is letting a death sentence stand for a man who fatally shot a sheriff during a drug raid in 2005. The high court declined to review the case. That man faces lethal injection for killing Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels who was trying to serve a warrant at that man’s rural home about 75 miles northeast of Wichita.
