Gabriela Cano, 32, and Evelin Cano, 14, of Hooker, Okla. were killed Sunday afternoon north of Liberal after colliding with a pickup truck head on.

According to Kansas Highway Patrol crash reports, the truck driven by Oklahoma-native Travis Burgess, 31, was southbound on U-83 when he crossed over the centerline into the northbound lane. The car driven by Cano swerved into the southbound lane in an attempt to avoid Burgess, but he too maneuvered back into the southbound lane.

Gabriela was wearing her safety restraint at the time of the crash, and Evelin was not.

Nayeli Cano, 10, was also in the car at the time of the crash. She was injured in the accident and was wearing her safety restraint.
