KDOT fire Oakley

Thousands of dollars of damage in a fire last night at the Kansas Department of Transportation building at the Highways 40 and 83 junction in Oakley. There were reports of minor injuries due to an explosion that occurred while fire departments fought the blaze, but those affected refused medical treatment.

The blaze was reported approximately 11:30 PM Wednesday night. Firefighters found it difficult to fight the fire due to the block structure of the building so a payloader was used to knock down part of the structure in order to get to the fire. The Kansas Department of Transportation building was a complete loss, plus KDOT ¬†trucks and other equipment burnt in the blaze. Other fires were started by embers in a nearby pasture but we’re contained. Logan County and Oakley fire crews were on the scene till approximately 4AM Thursday morning.
