The 2020 wrestling season came to an end on Saturday afternoon for 321A wrestlers at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Going into the weekend 21 wrestlers from the nine most northwest counties in Kansas qualified and when the dust settled on Saturday afternoon, 15 of them came away placing inside the top six.
Five of them wrestled for state championship and three of them came away with gold in Dylan Wiemer, Drew Bell & Derek Johnson; all of them from Hoxie.
The Indians as a team ended up finishing in second place just seven points behind Norton. Four teams from the nine county area were able to finish inside the top-20 of the team standings: Hoxie (2nd), Goodland (10th), Oakley (12th) & Decatur Community (19th). -Eddie Hanson finished 0-2 at state. Ending his run in the consolation first round.
-Cyrus Green finished the tournament going 3-2 and placed 5th at 195 pounds.
-D.J. Knox loses the the 106 pound championship to Norton’s Darius Schields by a 5-0 decision, finishing in 2nd.
-Mason Hernandez finished the tournament going 2-3 and took 5th place at 138 pounds.
-Dawson Holub finishes in 4th place at 195 pounds after going 3-2 in the tournament.
-Wayne Shepard went 1-2 ending his run in the consolation second round.
-Drew Bretz finishes in 6th place at 120 pounds going 2-3 in the tournament.
-Drew Bell defeats Jacob Sisson of Phillipsburg by a 3-1 decision to win the state title at 126 pounds.
-Derek Johnson defeats Kai Allen of Silver Lake by a 1-0 decision to with the 132 pound title.
-Dylan Weimer won state at 138 pounds by an 8-0 decision over Oakley’s Eric Cain.
-Aidan Baalman took 3rd place at 162 pounds finishing his tournament with a 4-1 record.
– Andrew Foote went 2-2 ending his tournament run in the consolation third round.
-Brandon Baker went 0-2 at state. Ending his run in the consolation first round.
-Tyler Schoenberger finishes in 4th place after going 2-3 at the tournament.
-Eric Cain finished runner-up at 138 pounds losing in an 8-0 decision to Hoxie’s Dylan Weimer.
-Aidan Stephenson finishes in 6th place at 145 pounds after going 2-3 at the tournament.
-Wyatt Glassman ends up going 1-2 in the tournament exiting in the consolation second round.
-Dawson Kempt takes home 4th place at 145 pounds going 4-2 in the tourney.
-Gavon Uehlin takes 4th place at 170 pounds after finishing with 3-2 tournament record.
-Garin Cooper finishes his state tournament with a 1-2 record ending his run in the consolation second round.
-Jayce Nider went 0-2 losing in the consolation first round, ending his tournament.
-Shadryon Blanka finishes in 3rd place at 195 pounds after going 5-1 in his tournament run.
