Colby Community College sophomores Omar Trevino and Raheem Brown have signed letters of intent to compete for Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Tex. Trevino and Brown will be heading closer to home as they are both Texas residents. They become the fifth and sixth Trojans to sign with a four-year university this academic year.
Trevino, a distance runner from San Antonio, Tex. (Edison HS), earned All Region VI honors in cross country this past season and helped the Trojans repeat as Region VI Cross Country Champions. He was also a point scorer for the Trojans at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships where he finished 8th in the 5000 meter run with a personal best time of 15:23.41.
Brown is a sprinter originally from Houston, Tex. (Klein Forest HS) who earned All American honors this past indoor season in the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes. He holds the Trojans school record in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.75 and in the 200 meter dash with 21.51. Brown also holds the outdoor school record in the men’s 200 meter dash with a time of 21.52.
Wayland Baptist is one of the premiere programs in the National Association of Intercollege Athletics (NAIA). WBU has won the second most track & field national titles in NAIA history with seven and are coming off a recent second place finish at the 2014 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
