COLBY, Kan. — Colby Community College’s basketball teams returned home for a double-header on Monday night, hosting the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors.

In the first matchup of the night, Head Coach Antwain Scales and the Lady Trojans got off to a bit of a slow start, trailing the Conqs 13-8 after the first period, but from there, they would continually chip away at the small deficit, before retaking the lead for good in the third quarter.

Behind 21 points from Aerihna Afoa and 18 from Kiara Knight, the Trojans would take firm control of the game in the early stages of the fourth quarter, and finish with a 15 point win. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Colby.

Afoa’s game-high 21 came on 5 of 8 shooting from the field, and 5 of 5 from 3-point range, not to mention a perfect 6 for 6 at the free  throw line as well.

Kiara Knight’s 18 combined with Nyrobi Pillers’s double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) helped to provide the knockout punch in the victory.

Colby now improves to 12-4 overall, and 3-4 in the KJCCC.

On the men’s side, they too were slow out of the gate, as Dodge City stormed out to an 8-2 lead in the first 90 seconds, but from there, Coach Elmore and the Trojans would right the ship and take firm grasp of the lead.

CCC lead 43-37 at the half, before a dominant second where they outscored the Conqs 45-29 en route to a 22-point thrashing.

Five different Trojans scored in double-figures, lead by 24 from Eddie Davis. Demarcus Sharp added 18, Alex Fanchini with 17, Matt McFarlane with 12, and Domonic Harvey with 10.

The Trojan defense would force DCCC into 17 turnovers, adding 22 points off of those turnovers as well.

In the victory, Colby would earn an edge in rebounding (35-32) and add a 15-5 advantage in second chance points. On the interior, CCC would also outscore Dodge in points in the paint 28-20.

The all-around dominating victory is Colby’s second consecutive win, improving the Trojan’s record to 13-3, and 5-2 in the KJCCC.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be back in action on Wednesday night against Northwest Kansas Technical College at 5:30 and 7:30 PM inside the Colby Community Building.
