Nine area runners brought home medals after placing inside the top 20 at KSHSAA State Cross County on Saturday.
Even though they didn’t place as a team the Colby Lady Eagles had the best showing of all with all three ladies finishing inside the top ten led by the 3A girls state champion in Lara Murdock. Teammates Kathie Chavez (3rd) & Senna Metcalf (9th) also had great showings at 3A state XC in Wamego.
Another great performance came from Golden Plains Emma Weimer who took third at 1A state at Victoria.
Hoxie’s Gabe Friess took 2nd in the boys race while teammate Emily Dierks took 4th in the girls race. The other Lady Indians runner Samantha Robben came in 63rd place.
Oakley girls also had a great showing in Victoria in the 2A classification coming third who two top-20 placers in Jaelle Johnson (13th) & Citori Bosserman (19th). Other Oakley runners included Daysha Allison who came in 25th, Aubrey Losey finished 45th. Martina Montes (69th). Jada Renner (81st) & Emma Evins (86th). Plainsman Robert Weber came in 89th in the boys race.
The Quinter boys team also finished in third even without a top-20 placer. Eli Grunenbacher led the Bulldogs who came in 23rd. Collin Thielen (33rd). Matthew Elder (34th). Bailey Watts (45th). Micah Simon (55th) The Quinter girls finished in 7th as team led by Leah Anstaett who finished 26th. Sage Betz (44th), Jesse Borger (51st). Millie Brown (55th).
Wallace County had two runners come inside the top-30 as Adrianne Selzer & Alyssa Pierce finished 28th & 29th respectively. And Goodland’s lone qualifier Noah Schears finished 95th in the 3A boys race.
