After every one had crossed the finish line this past Saturday at regional cross county, 26 northwest Kansas area runners had earned the right compete at state this coming weekend.
The three teams included both boys and girls teams from Quinter and the Oakley Lady Plainsmen. Quinter girls took second while the boys team came in third at the Tribune regional. Oakley girls had one of the best showings of any team in the state regardless of classification as they had all five runners finish inside the top ten at the Washington County regional.
Individuals that qualified by placing inside the top ten but will not run as a team included: Golden Plains’ Emma Weimer as well as Wallace County Alyssa Pierce & Adrianne Selzer from 1A. Hoxie had three runners qualify: Emily Dierks & Samantha Robben in the girls race while Gabe Friess qualified for the boys. Oakley’s Robert Weber was also be able make it state.
Colby girls had maybe the best day, second only to the Oakley girls team, as Lara Murdock, Kathie Chavez & Seanna Metcalff each punched their tickets to state. Goodland’s Noah Schears just qualified make him the lone area boys runner in 3A to make the cut.
State Cross County will take place this Saturday. 3A runners will be running at Wamego while 2A & 1A runners will be competing at Victoria.
