The Reason For Northwest Kansas’ Power Outages

Midwest Energy confirms it was a melted wire that caused the power outage overnight that left thousands of people in the dark. The short in the system tripped Midwest Energy’s breakers that control power from Rexford to Wallace County, including all of Colby. While crews temporarily re-routed power supplies overnight, it was another outage mid-morning that let workers get the problem permanently fixed.
