
The tri-state area was blasted by strong winds yesterday, causing multiple accidents and road closures.

The National Weather Service in Goodland reported the following wind speeds:
-Burlington, CO… 71 mph
-Kit Carson, CO… 59 mph
-Seibert, CO… 60 mph
-Firstview, CO… 56 mph
-New Stratton, CO… 56 mph
-Goodland, KS… 61 mph
-Sharon Springs, KS… 55 mph
-St. Francis, KS… 47 mph
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported numerous accidents along K-27 in between Sherman and Greeley County, resulting in its northbound and southbound closure. High winds were kicking up dirt effecting driver visibility.
A five car crash was reported in Greeley County three miles north of Tribune with no one sustaining serious injuries. Semitrailers that were blown over along with several other minor incidents were reported as well.
Greeley, Wallace, and Sherman Counties were all under dust storm warnings from the National Weather Service at some point yesterday.
The visibility was so poor in Colorado that Interstate 70 eastbound and westbound between Limon and Burlington was closed around 1 p.m. MST due to multiple accidents and poor visibility. Around 5 p.m. yesterday, Sherman County dispatch confirmed the closing of I-70 westbound from Goodland to the state line.
Highway 24 westbound to the state line from Goodland was also closed.
