State lawmakers push property tax increase

A committee of Kansas lawmakers advances a property tax increase to help fill the state’s budget hole. The state senators opted to raise taxes for most homeowners by $46 a year, but they tabled a proposal for higher alcohol and tobacco taxes. Those had been pushed hard by Governor Brownback.
