A man from Saint Francis faces up to 30 years in prison after admitting in court to making child porn with two 14-year olds and a 15-year old. He was already a registered sex offender at the time, and is due for sentencing in September.
Fort Riley officials are hopeful a $37 million program to conserve energy will save the Army post $92 million during the next 22 years. Construction started this week on 15 energy conservation measures for the fort’s 280 buildings. The initial goal is to reduce energy usage by 25 percent by 2025.
Prosecutors claim a man in Ottawa looked for a mother and child to enslave for sex. Court documents suggest he told an undercover investigator posing as a woman online that he’d take care of her and her child but “it won’t be easy on either of you.” He’d arranged to meet the two at a hotel but was arrested when he got there.
A 7-year old girl recovers in the hospital after being sexually assaulted in an apartment in Wichita. An adult in that unit heard the girl crying, learned what happened, and called 911. Police admit they don’t have a lot to go on in the case, just a preliminary description of the suspect. He’s white, clean shaven, with light colored hair.
Kansas is renewing a contract with the state’s student testing provider despite technical problems that caused delays. the University of Kansas’ Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation has overseen those tests for the state’s school districts since 1989. The director of the center promises they’ll continue to do better and better.
