Shortage Of Fire Engines Could Impact Kansas

Several members of the Kansas congressional delegation including both senators are sending a letter to the defense
department today. They’re trying to get relief from a rule that’s cutting off the supply of fire engines to small departments, including big chunks of Kansas. While most small departments get their fire trucks on loan from the forest service or buy them at military surplus auctions, an agreement between the military and the EPA is putting the brakes on that because the trucks don’t meet emissions standards. Senator Jerry Moran hopes the letter from the lawmakers will do the trick, but if not, he says he’ll introduce legislation for that.
