Rain is being blamed for a crash in Sherman County that sent a man to the hospital. One driver hydroplaned into a car on the shoulder, hitting the driver who had gotten out to close his trunk lid. Everybody involved is expected to recover.
A former candidate for the Kansas House asks the state Supreme Court to order a county’s judges to convene a grand jury to investigate Secretary of State Kris Kobach. Democrat Steven Davis of Lawrence filed his request after Douglas County’s chief judge rejected Davis’ petition for a grand jury.
A federal judge in Kansas tosses out a Muslim inmate’s lawsuit that accused a county jail of violating his religious rights. The lawsuit dates back to 2014 and targets the Shawnee County Jail. That inmate claimed he wasn’t fed for 28 hours during the season of Ramadan and was served cold, unbearable meals so close to his prayer time that he couldn’t eat them before fasting.
No contest is the plea from a Kansas man charged with killing a man in a bar by hitting him with a pool cue. Johnson County prosecutors said that man “unintentionally, but recklessly” killed the victim when he swung a pool cue at another man’s head but missed and hit him instead.
A woman in Salina is accused of embezzling more than $8600 from the office she managed. The case runs from August to November of last year, when prosecutors claim she took cash and credit card payments and stashed them in her personal account instead of the company’s bank account.
