Senate Panel Takes Up Bill Loosening Liquor Law

A committee in the state Senate takes up that highly-publicized bill that would let grocery stores and gas stations sell full-strength beer, plus wine and liquor. It would be up to voters in each county whether they wanted to approve that. Supporters claim it’d be more
convenient for customers and lead to increased competition, while opponents worry about the impact on liquor stores.
