Two semitrailers scuffed one another in a bizarre collision at the westbound Interstate 70 off-ramp exchange with KS-27 in Goodland early Monday morning.
Driver Johnnie Mckinney was approaching the intersection’s stop sign around 3:45 am to turn north on KS-27 when a southbound semitrailer attempted to use the off-ramp to proceed on to I-70 east.
“it kind of shook me up,” Mckinney said of the hit-and-run. “Thank God I’m not hurt.”
According to Mckinney, the other driver swerved back onto southbound 27 after impact and drove away with no attempt to interact with Mckinney.
Mckinney, who was en route for Big Piney, Wyoming with a load of piping, said he tried to dodge the oncoming truck by swerving right in an attempt to avoid the collision. The maneuver forced him to go through the stop sign posted in the grass right of the off-ramp, snapping the wooden post into pieces before pulling over on the side of the road.
Local authorities received a call about the accident at 3:49 am and were on scene shortly after. The semitrailer was towed off the side of the road before the 6 o’clock hour.
