The Wichita State Shockers are flying high right now, fresh off an upset of #1 seeded Gonzaga in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament this weekend. With the win, the Shox advance to the “Sweet 16″ and, as is the case with any Cinderella, they are garnering a lot of national media attention.
Scott City, KS native Ron Baker, a red-shirt freshman for the Shockers, has made quite a name for himself in the tournament. In the win over Gonzaga, Baker hit 5 of 7 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 from behind the 3-point line, for a total of 16 points. The national TV audience with flooded with images of the 6’3” Kansan as WSU celebrated their victory.
Baker will be a guest today on the nationally syndicated “Jim Rome” Show. The show airs from 11:00AM-2:00PM (central) and can be heard on-line here.
Baker is no stranger to winning. He was a member of 2011 Scott City High School Class 3A State Championship team, scoring the winning basket on a buzzer-beater in the title game against Minneapolis. He also quarterbacked the football team and played baseball at SCHS. He is the son of Neil and Ranae Baker.
