Ross Volkmer

Ross Volkmer grew up on a grain farm in southeast Nebraska, 3 miles north of the small town of Carleton (pop. 96). He graduated from Bruning-Davenport High School in 2007 and later attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville with the goals of becoming a broadcaster. He also worked part time as a sports play-by-play broadcaster and reporter for ESPN 1550 in St. Joe, Missouri. After obtaining a bachelors degree in broadcasting, Ross returned to Carleton for a short time to help with his family’s custom farming business that farms around 7,000 acres.

In late August 2011 Rocking M Media in Colby hired Ross as there Farm Director and Utility Man. His duties included Farm News, sports play-by-play, sales, helping on the KRDQ morning show and anything else he was asked to do.

In June of 2016, Ross accepted the position of Sports Director in the Colby/Goodland market of Rocking M Media, sports always being his true passion. He currently is the play-by-play voice of the Goodland Cowboys & the Northwest Tech Mavericks basketball teams. He also hosts The Morning Blitz sports show from 7-8 MT weekdays on 102.5 U-Rock and does sales.

Ross lives in Goodland with his wife Janessa and dog Scarlet. Enjoys watching & going to sporting events (especially his Nebraska Cornhuskers & Arizona Diamondbacks), working out, golfing, messing with technology & smoking/grilling.
