andy lambertOctober 17, 2013

The Adjutant General’s Department has recalled the remaining 137 out of 263 federally-funded state employees furloughed because of the federal government shutdown.  In addition five non-dual status technicians who work for the Kansas National Guard are also being recalled.  These technicians were not recalled on Oct. 4 because they did not meet the Secretary of Defense guidelines for the recall.

The recalled employees will report to work on Friday, Oct. 18.

“We are relieved to be able to get our employees back to work,” said Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general. “This will allow us to begin the process to return to normal operations.”

On Oct. 4, 263 federally-funded state employees were furloughed due to the government shutdown.  Of the 263 employees, 126 were returned to work starting Oct. 14.  These employees work for the Regional Sustainment Maintenance Site facilities which refurbish military equipment and are located at Salina and Fort Riley.

On Oct. 1 a total of 772 Kansas National Guardsmen were furloughed due to the federal shutdown. This figure includes 417 Army National Guard soldiers from across the state, 209 airmen from the 190th Air Refueling Wing in Topeka and 146 airmen at the 184th Intelligence Wing in Wichita.  The guardsmen returned to work starting on Oct. 7.
