The Colby Community College Men’s Track and Field Team, coached by James Ortiz, continued to dominate the competition over the weekend at the Alex Francis Classic in Hays. The Trojans sprint squad highlighted the weekend by setting new Alex Francis Classic meet records in the 4 x 100 meter relay and the 200 meter dash. The 4 x 100 meter relay of Anthony Farrington, Raheem Brown, Dontrell Lyons and Keenan Williams set a new meet record of 40.72 (previously set by Fort Hays with a time of 40.76 in 2003). The time also set a new Colby Community College record by over a full second.
Lyons returned in the 200 meter dash to lead the Trojans in a 1-2-3-4 sweep of the event and set a new meet record with his time of 20.96–topping the previous mark of FHSU’s Zach Brown in 2008 of 21.09. Lyons time also set a new school record previously held by Raheem Brown who finished second in a personal best 21.09.
Colby posted victories in nearly half of the available events during the competition. Raheem Brown set a new school record in route to winning the Men’s 100 meter dash in 10.56, Fabian Hayles won the Men’s 400 meter run in 49.95, Mike Kinuthia won the Men’s 800 meter run in 1:53.44 and Jermaine Smith won the Men’s 400 meter hurdles in 55.16. Gennard Paul doubled as a victor in both the Men’s Long Jump and Triple Jump, and the Men’s 4 x 400 meter relay of Anthony Stephens, Jermaine Smith, Desmond Major and Raheem Brown was victorious in 3:19.68.
The Trojans return to action on April 5 at the UNK Loper Invitational.
