Oberlin man dead after shootout with police

An Oberlin man is dead after a shooting involving police and the Kansas Highway Patrol overnight.

According to the Oberlin Police Department, police were called to a home Monday evening to investigate possible criminal activity.

One suspect ran from police and KHP troopers who were assisting. Police say the suspect started firing shots at officers in the 700 block of E. Commercial.

Officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case, with help from the Oberlin Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
