Kansas Governor Sam Brownback will host the 2nd annual Kansas Governor’s Ringneck Classic Thursday, November 15 through Sunday, November 18. The city of Oakley and the surrounding area will be the gathering point for this invitational event. The Kansas Governor’s Ringneck Classic is designed to showcase the hunting opportunities in northwest Kansas to hunters inside and outside the state.
The Classic benefits four worthy non-profit organizations:
- NW Kansas Classic Conservation Foundation
- The Logan County Health Care Foundation
- The Buffalo Bill Cultural Center
- Pheasants Forever
Activities surrounding the four day event will be held at the recently opened Buffalo Bill Cultural Center in Oakley. The schedule begins with trap and sporting clay shootings on Thursday and Friday. Then Friday night hunters will join community members for the Governor’s Reception featuring BBQ, a live and silent action and a performance by Nashville recording duo Joey+Rory.
On Saturday the hunters will take to fields for the Governor’s Hunt and attend the award dinner that night with musical performance by top country music songwriter Rivers Rutherford. Sunday, there is a bonus hunt.
Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Secretary Robin Jennison will join the Governor, along with Kansas State Senator Ralph Ostmeyer, Kansas State Representative Ward Cassidy and Representative-elect Travis Couture Lovelady. More than 60 hunters are scheduled to participate, including former KC Chief Bill Maas, National Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever President and CEO Howard Vincent, and freelance outdoor photographer Larry Kruckenberg.
Soldiers with the 1st Infantry, Second Brigade at Fort Riley will be Governor Brownback’s special guests: 1Lt. Josh Willis, Major Andrew Thueme, Capt. Tad Slatter and Sgt. Major Robert Allen.
