DODGE CITY, KS — The Northwest Tech basketball teams hit road both thinking they would have good shot of earning wins against Dodge City Community College.
Mavericks 88 Dodge City 73
After earning their best win of the season on Wednesday over #15 ranked Seward County the Maverick men looked to make it two in a row against a struggling Conquistador team. Northwest would actually end up playing one of its best games and winning quite easily, 88-73
Neither team got off to a great start struggling to score the basketball. Tech would lead 15-12 at the first media timeout and would grow its lead to ten before DCCC would go on a run to make it 36-34 at halftime. Mavericks would come out, and despite many attempts by the Conqs to take the lead, would keep at least a four to six point lead thru the second half media timeout. But in the final eight minutes Tech would pull away and earn their first win on the road at a Jayhawk opponent since 2015.
Five different Mav’s would score in double figures led by Chris Freeman who had 23 points. Dodge City was led by Jyrus Freels who had 19 points. Tech shot 50-percent from three and was plus-six in rebounding on their way to winning their second straight conference game for the first time in program history.
Mavericks now sit at 12-11 overall & 4-10 in conference play and will head to Hutch on Wednesday while Dodge City (7-16, 2-12) heads to Colby.
