A man from Wichita gets a year and a half in federal prison on prostitution-related charges connected to a sting operation targeting massage parlors. He was convicted in April of one count each of attempting to entice a person to cross state lines to engage in prostitution, using a telephone in furtherance of prostitution and money laundering.
Kansas delegates to the Republican National Convention aren’t showing much interest in an effort to block Donald Trump’s presidential nomination. Most of the state’s delegates are pledged to other candidates, as Ted Cruz won the GOP caucus in Kansas back in March.
The second of two teenagers accused in a robbery and shooting in Wichita that paralyzed the victim has been sentenced to prison. The Sixteen-year-old gets more than 12 years in prison on charges of attempted murder, assault and battery. He was 14 years old when he and a 17-year old tried to rob a man while he sat in his tractor-trailer cab, and he was shot three times during a struggle.
The deadline closes in in Chanute, where a fundraiser aims to collect $40-thousand for a playground for disabled kids. That money would match a $100-thousand grant to build the playground, which would also target kids with autism. Organizers hope to raise the money by the end of the month.
For the first time since 1956, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress known as “Doc” takes to the skies. The bomber built in Wichita lifted off from McConnell Air Force Base yesterday morning after a more than 16-year volunteer restoration effort. It included some people who either worked on the original Boeing production line or were B-29 crew members.
