Room and board costs at universities in Kansas are expected to climb next year. The largest proposed rate increase is at Ku, which is asking for a 4.9 percent hike. K-State, Wichita State, Fort Hays, Emporia, and Pittsburg State all proposed increases below 4 percent.
Police investigate after a woman was found shot to death and her week-old baby daughter was reported missing. That woman’s body was found in her apartment, and a police spokeswoman says police are canvassing the neighborhood and talking with the KBI as well. Police also are looking for a 1997 purple Cadillac in connection with the case.
A 6-year-old Kansas boy has died from injuries in a crash that killed his mother and younger sister. The boy from Junction City had been in the hospital since that wreck Tuesday in Geary County. Prosecutors are now waiting on the results of toxicology tests performed on the driver of a box truck that ran into the back of a car driven by the boy’s mom.
Lawrence city hall files a lawsuit to terminate an incentive agreement with The Oread hotel. Court papers claim the developers collected tax rebates for hundreds of purchases that weren’t related to the hotel, such as landscaping for a home, a cabin in Colorado, and party tent rental. The developers claim they haven’t done anything wrong.
A full investigation is underway after a deadly industrial accident in Great Bend. It’s unclear exactly what happened, although the man had an accidental head injury that killed him. The accident happened at Fuller Industries, a firm that makes cleaning supplies and brushes.
