
The work for lawmakers is far from over, despite a deal on taxes and the budget. State senators barely passed the spending and revenue proposals, 21-19 at the start of the weekend. Many of those legislators are still concerned about the state of Kansas’ fiscal affairs, and wondering how to sell the situation to voters. The plan brings in $384 million more in revenue by hiking the state sales tax to 6.55% and raising cigarette taxes 50 cents a pack.
