Lady Eagles Season Ends at Norton

Dan LuceroMarch 1, 2021

The Colby Lady Eagles picked the wrong time for their lowest offensive output of the season.

Norton’s stifling defense held Colby to just seven total field goals and a close game after one quarter became a rout as the sub-state hosts eased to a 44-21 victory in 3A first-round play Monday night.

Colby led on two separate occasions in the first quarter, with Mackenzie Dodson’s three giving the Lady Eagles a 5-4 advantage. Norton edged in front 10-9 by the end of the quarter, and after that, Colby’s offense struggled the rest of the night. The Lady Blue Jays opened the second quarter on a 12-0 run and took a 24-12 lead into the locker room. After Colby opened the second half scoring with a free throw from Kennedy Stanley, Norton reeled off the next 14 points to take a 25-point lead, their largest of the night. After making three shots from the field in the first quarter, Colby managed just four made shots the rest of the game, and were held to a season-low one three-pointer.

Brooklyn Jones led Colby with seven points in the loss. Tessa Hauser and Addison Brooks scored 12 points apiece to pace Norton.

Norton improves to 17-4 and will take on top-seed Phillipsburg (18-3) in semi-final action in Norton on Thursday night. Goodland (18-3) faces Hays-TMP (18-3) in the other semi. Colby’s season ends with a record of 11-10.
