
A Hoxie man was killed Sunday morning two miles east of Menlo in an attempt to avoid a deer.
According to Kansas Highway Patrol reports, 37-year-old Gioavani Duarte-Trinidad was driving his 2001 Ford Ranger westbound on 10 Road south at 5 a.m. yesterday morning. A deer was reportedly in his lane, causing Duarte-Trinidad to swerve into the north ditch and roll his vehicle.
He was ejected from the vehicle and troopers pronounced him dead at the scene.
The passenger in the vehicle, 27-year-old Jesus Giron-Fuentes of Menlo, was injured and taken to Sheridan County Hospital.
KHP reports say neither man was wearing a seat belt.
