Staff members at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation near Burlington found the source of a minor water leak and are working to repair it. A cracked weld turned out to be the source of the water leak in the reactor cooling system, forcing a manual shutdown last Friday.
The former city clerk in Frontenac is accused of buying about $8,100 of personal merchandise using city money. Doug Sellars faces a number of charges and is now out on bond. He abruptly left the city clerk job and the interim city manager post last year.
Prosecutors appeal a decision to toss out the conviction of a man found guilty of setting a fire that destroyed an apartment building in Topeka and killed a tenant. The judge agreed with that man’s attorneys, who argued the lawyer who represented him during the trial did a bad job. The date for a new trial hasn’t been set.
