OAKLEY, Kan — After struggling to finish a majority of the early part of the season the Goodland Cowgirl volleyball team finally finished at the Oakley Invitational tournament going 5-0 and earning the tournament championship over Colby.
After going 4-0 and only dropping one set the entire day, Goodland capped off the tournament with an impressive win over a solid Colby team two sets to one in the title game. After Colby took the first set 25-23, Goodland came back to win 25-22 & 25-11 in sets two & three.
Cowgirls (12-11) started the day with a sweep of Hitchcock County (NE) 25-22 & 25-18. Then would win in three sets over Oakley. Taking set one 25-21, losing set two 25-21 & the then winning 25-15 in set three. GHS would then sweep their next two opponents in Wichita County (25-14 & 25-10) and Syracuse (25-19 & 25-12).
Colby( 17-7), like Goodland, would also go 4-0 early in the day. Winning in three sets versus Hitchcock County (18-25, 25-10 & 25-13) and two sets against Syracuse (25-12 & 25-9). Lady Eagles would then win in straight sets over Quinter (25-18 & 25-8) and Triplains/Brewster (25-7 & 25-10).
Quinter went 1-2 on the day losing to Colby in two sets, defeating Triplains/Brewster in three & falling to Syracuse in three sets. Host Oakley would go 0-3 as would Triplains/Brewster.
