CIMARRON, KS — The Goodland Cowgirls softball team earned their 1st wins of the season on Monday afternoon topping the Cimarron Bluejays in both games of their double header, 15-1 and 10-9.

In game one, Goodland dominated scoring 15 runs on 13 hits. Freshman DH, Atalee Amthor led the Cowgirls at the plate going 2 for 5 with a career high 5 RBI’s. While, sophomore pitcher Brooke Drennen went five innings allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out six to earn her first win of the season.

In game two, Goodland once again got out to a nice 8-1 lead before the Bluejays scored seven runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to tie it up and then another run in the 6th to lead for the first in the series. Trailing with just three out left, Goodland’s bottom of the order, after struggling last Thursday at Hugoton, came up big with junior Taitum Ketter & sophomore Shay Smith getting on base. Then junior Kaitlyn Frazier came up big, hitless on the day, and hit a two RBI double to right field to give GHS the lead. Freshman pitcher Anna Guiterrez got her first win of her young career going seven innings striking out a career high five batters.
