A Goodland man this week was sentenced to a little over 7 years in state prison. Eric Wayne Clayville was convicted back in December in Trego County District Court. of attempted aggravated indecent solicitation with a child and four counts of interference with law enforcement. Clayville’s convictions stem from an incident that occurred in WaKeeney in June. Clayville will be required to register as a sex offender.
Legislation was introduced this week to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our nation in the Army’s First Infantry Division. This bill authorizes these fallen soldiers’ names to be added to the First Division Monument located on White House grounds in Washington, D.C. The First Infantry Division was established in 1917 and has been on continuous active duty for more than 100 years.
A fire at a rural Kansas home killed multiple cats. The Saline County Sheriff’s Office says a home owner left a space heater on inside to keep her 10 cats warm. The home and its contents were destroyed by a fire started by the heater, and 10 cats inside did not survive. The homeowner, a doctr at KWU, was not home at the time.
A Topeka woman is dead following a pre-dawn, two-vehicle crash Thursday on I-70 East near Fairlawn Road. Officers say 51-year-old Dana Thowe was killed around 3:30 a.m. when her car collided with a state truck. The driver of the second vehicle, 39-year-old Topeka resident Caleb Wasson, suffered minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
One of President Trump’s big guns is coming to speak in Kansas next month. Administration officials say U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be in Overland Park to serve as keynote speaker at a leadership summit scheduled for March 18th A venue for the event has not been announced.
