Goodland city manager Doug Gerber confirmed that he is accepting the position as Topeka’s new financial and administrative services director.
According to the Topeka Capital-Journal, Gerber will oversee Topeka’s financial and administrative services department, provide internal and external financial reports and handle all city financial transactions.
“It’s a decision we struggled with because we enjoyed our time in Northwest Kansas,” Gerber said. “In the end, it seemed like an opportunity on both the professional and personal side I had to pursue and it’s something we couldn’t pass up.”
He and his wife, Michele, have roots in Newton and Halstead.
Gerber has served as Goodland’s city manager since 2009. Before his stint in Goodland, he was assistant city manager for Salina and was Beloit’s city administrator from 2003-2009.
“I hope I was able to bring some value to the city and help benefit the citizens into the future,” Gerber said.
Gerber did not specify what the status is in regards to finding his successor. The Capital-Journal reported an expected start date in March, and his annual salary will be $106,500.
