Four Big 12 teams ranked in preseason baseball polls; K-State ranked for first time

The Baseball America  and Perfect Game preseason Top 25 polls for the 2014 college baseball season were released Monday and featured four teams from the Big 12 Conference.


The University of Texas is ranked No. 18 by Baseball America and No. 25 by Perfect Game after finishing 27-24 in their 2013 campaign. Powercat


TCU is right behind the Longhorns in the Baseball America poll at No. 19, also finishing season near .500 with a  29-28 record.


Kansas State is ranked No. 22 in both the Perfect Game and Baseball America polls after finishing last season as the13th ranked team in the country. The Wildcats will look to build off of a 45-19 season that saw them win the regular season Big 12 title and make their first ever appearance in a Super Regional.


Oklahoma State is ranked No. 23 in the Perfect Game poll.


The Wildcats will be a favorite to repeat as conference champions. The Wildcats return 19 letterwinners from last year’s team. Five are everyday starters and eight pitchers also return to a staff that boasted a combined 3.92 ERA and held the opposing teams’ bats in check with a .262 opponent batting average.


K-State starts the 2014 season on Feb. 14 against Cal Poly as part of an eight-game, 10-day road trip. The home opener for the Wildcats is Feb. 28 against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
