Five people sent to hospital after I-70 accident near Oakley

A semitrailer westbound on I-70 one mile west of Oakley lost a tire and caused an accident yesterday that sent five people to Logan County Hospital.

 

According to Kansas Highway Patrol reports, 38-year-old David Hagerman of Pennsylvania was driving the semi when a tire separated from the vehicle. The tire went across the median and struck a car driven by Hector Maldonado, 38, of Hutchinson.

 

Maldonado’s vehicle spun out and came to a rest in the south ditch. He and Nancy Martinez, 37; Yancey Maldonado, 12; Erick Maldonado, 11; and Brisa Maldonado, 9, were taken to the hospital.

 

None of the injuries sustained were reportedly serious. Hagerman was not injured in the accident.
