Feds seize bomb materials, guns and ammo from Montana home of man accused of shooting at trooper in Sherman County…and other headlines: July 6, 2017

FBI agents seize bomb-making materials, seven guns and ammunition from the Montana home of a man accused of opening fire on a Kansas state trooper on I-70 in Sherman County. That man was already wanted for bank robberies in five states. An inventory list of property taken from that man’s home also includes sheriff’s badges and patches, along with a sheriff’s vest and ammo vest.
A federal magistrate judge has spurned a move by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach seeking reconsideration of a $1,000 fine levied against him for misleading the court. U.S. Magistrate Judge James O’Hara said Wednesday that Kobach’s “new excuse lacks credibility” based on its late assertion and lack of supporting documentation. Kobach had blamed “editing errors” for his earlier misstatements to the court.
The latest government report shows the winter wheat harvest is wrapping up in many parts of the state. The National Agricultural Statistics Service reported Wednesday that about 73 percent of the wheat in Kansas had been harvested. Late rain has the northwest part of the state running behind much of the rest of Kansas.
The KBI is called in to investigate a declared suicide in Chanute. Two police officers doing a welfare check on a man found him on the back deck, gun to his head. They tried to get him to put the gun down, then one of them fired their Taser which led that man to pull the trigger. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Three people are in the hospital after their pickups collided in rural Saline County. One truck clipped another, sending that pickup rolling onto its top in the middle of the road. The driver that caused the accident claimed she couldn’t see the other truck due to sun glare until it was too late to avoid impact.
