Federal judge looks into government “spying”

A federal judge is highlighting what she says is the government’s growing use of secret warrants to spy on criminal suspects in Kansas. Congress authorized delayed-notice warrants in the Patriot Act as a way to fight terrorism. But critics say they’re being used for routine criminal investigations. Kansas had more than 550 of the searches in fiscal 2013.
