One woman is dead, 7 more taken to the hospital after a crash in Ford County. The driver of an SUV hit a bull standing on US 400, and the impact pushed the vehicle into oncoming traffic where it collided with another SUV. The driver who hit the bull wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the collision.
Political scientists at Fort Hays State find Donald Trump has a higher approval rating than Sam Brownback. 21 percent of respondents in Kansas approved of the job the governor is doing, compared to 44 percent for the president. The survey closed April 11th.
State lawmakers approach the 100-day mark of the legislative session without a plan to increase school funding in response to a state Supreme Court ruling. The state also faces significant budget shortfalls over the next two years and there’s still a lack of consensus on tax and spending plans to balance the budget.
Unsealed transcripts show prosecutors questioned the impartiality of a juror after her husband posted online that the case against a man charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year old was a “witch hunt.” That man in Holton was found not guilty. Documents also show the juror didn’t want to be on the panel out of fear of being confronted in public.
Cities may soon be able to set up districts where people can drink in public while moving between bars, restaurants and entertainment venues. Lenexa leaders are pushing for the bill for its new public market. Some lawmakers are concerned about public safety, claiming the bill could ultimately lead to more drunk drivers.
