GOODLAND, KS — It’s a whole new ballgame, literally, for Goodland High School. GHS welcomes girls tennis to its sports offered to high school students starting here in 2019.
The first year of the program sees five girls out for the team. Ali Hollern will serve as the head coach for the girls with her husband Shane helping out as the assistant. For Ali it is her first season as a coach, Shane has been a basketball assistant for the last couple of years.
Coach Ali Hollern said it will be a season of “trial by fire” as none of the girls out have ever played tennis before at any competitive level and are still trying to learn and understand the nuances of the game.
“I’m really excited about this group, they are all ready to learn and they ask really great questions. And they are open to learning and trying new things,” said Coach Hollern.
Cowgirls open their 2019 season Tuesday in Wakeeney.
