Eagles Sweep Scott City to Wrap Up 2020

Dan LuceroDecember 19, 2020

The Colby Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams concluded the 2020 portions of their schedules in very similar fashion at the Community Building on Friday night, rallying back from second-half deficits and dominating with defense in the fourth quarter to score victories over visiting Scott City.

In the girls game, Colby trailed by nine points early in the third frame before Emma Curry and Brooklyn Jones brought the offense to life, with Curry scoring Colby’s first eight points in the fourth quarter to give the Lady Eagles the lead for good. Colby held the Lady Beavers without a field goal over the final nine minutes of action and held on for a 41-37 victory, just their second in their last twelve meetings against Scott City.

Curry finished with a season-high 19 points for Colby while Jones added 14 points. Amber Latta’s 26 points led Scott City in the loss.

Hear from Lady Eagles coach Tom Stephens:

The boys faced a similar hill to climb in the second half as three-point shooting propelled the Beavers to a seven-point lead in the third quarter. But as hot as Scott City had been from the field, Ryan Myers got hotter in the second half, scoring 17 of his game-high 27 points in the final two quarters and sparking a 15-0 run that lifted Colby to a 46-34 win. Just like the girls before, the Colby boys kept Scott City from making a field goal in the entire fourth quarter.

The 27 points for Myers included seven made three-pointers and was a season high. Scott City was led by Lawson Bailey and Josh Rosin, who had nine points each.

Hear from Eagles coach Parker McKee:

Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles are 3-2 on the season while the Beavers and Lady Beavers are both 1-4. These games did not count in the GWAC standings, as only the final meeting of the season between any two GWAC foes will count in the league standings this season.

Colby is back in action January 8th at Dodge City.
