The KBI takes over the investigation into a shooting of a man in Sherman County. He’d allegedly come up from behind a stopped car in the middle of I-70, armed with a machete. A highway patrol trooper told him to drop it, that man didn’t, and was shot. He’s expected to survive.
A woman in Garden City is accused of ripping off several people of over $32-thousand by preparing their tax returns and then collecting the refund checks as well as getting credit cards in the names of the people she’d helped with their taxes. She’s in the Finney County jail now.
A judge faces criticism for his comments during the trial of a man in Topeka. When a woman testified that the suspect forced himself on her but didn’t believe she’d been raped, the judge replied “Is this Fifty Shades of Grey or 50 shades of illegal?” One of the charges implies the victim was a minor at the time.
The state’s budget problems haven’t stopped upgrades to the state’s executive aircraft. It’s getting a new paint job, improved interior, and upgrades to the navigation system. Those will cost taxpayers nearly $900-thousand. That plane hasn’t been upgraded since it was bought in 2001.
Law enforcement looks into claims that inappropriate photos are circulating at Reno Valley Middle School & Nickerson High. A sheriff’s spokesman says students had their phones confiscated last week and several kids were questioned. No word on exactly what material’s been making the rounds.
