COLBY, KS — Goodland Cowgirls 2018-19 basketball season came to an end on Monday night at the hands of the Colby Lady Eagles, 58-30.
Both teams got off to semi-fast starts but Colby held an early advantage at the end of the first period, 18-10. Both teams struggled to find the basket in the second quarter as both team combined to score 10 points and the Eagles would lead heading into halftime, 24-14.
Despite neither team really shooting lights out to start second half, Colby still found a way to expand their lead to 36-21 by the end of the third. Colby would pull away in the fourth thanks to free throw attempts and would end up defeating Goodland for the fourth time this season and for the sixth straight time. Final score of 58-30.
Colby had three ladies score in double figures led by freshman Brooklyn Jones with game-high 16 points and Hallie Vaughn scored 15 points. Goodland did not have one girls score more than eight in the contest. Taighe Weeter & Brooke Livengood each score eight to pace GHS.
Goodland’s season ends with a 4-17 overall record which is a three-win improvement from last season. Colby advanced to the 3A substate semifinals against Cimarron to played on Thursday in Kismet.
