GOODLAND, KS — The goal every year is to win your homecoming game but that just did not happen as the Goodland Cowboys fell to their former Northwest Kansas League foe in the Oakley Plainsmen Friday night, 22-0. It was the second consecutive game where the Cowboys offense just could not get anything going and were held to zero points. GHS was only able to muster 53 total yards of offense making it back-to-back weeks of less than 70 total yards on the offensive end. The Goodland defense did a decent job throughout the night of bending but not breaking and allowing a season low 22 points scored.
For the Plainsmen it was a text book offensive night as they amassed 368 total yards, 258 of it on the ground. Ethan Abell led OHS on the ground with 135 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. While quarterback Kade Hemmert put on an efficient performance going 10-12 for 110 yards with two touchdowns passing and also ran for 46 yards. Oakley has now won 5 games in a row over Goodland.
With the loss, Goodland falls to 0-4 for the first time since 2001. While Oakley improves to 3-1 which is their best start in three seasons. Goodland will continue district play next week when they host Beloit at Cowboy Stadium. Oakley will play at #1 ranked in 1A Smith Center.
