The Colby High School wrestling team posted another strong showing at this weekend’s regional wrestling tournament, finishing in third place as a team.
Marysville High School took first, with a team total of 175 points, with Scott Community High School in second at 152.
The Colby Eagles saw six different wrestlers qualify for the State Wrestling Tournament this coming weekend at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina.
Sophomore Aiden Cook will take his solid record of 27-8 into Salina, competing at 113, and coming off of a runner-up finish in Concordia, while fellow sophomore Tyler Voss will wrestle at 120, carrying in an outstanding 36-2 record and a regional championship after this past weekend.
Junior Hagan Booi qualified for state with a runner-up finish at 195 on the weekend. He also crossed the 100 career wins mark in Concordia this weekend.
Junior Declan Ryan also qualified for the state tournament, thanks to a strong showing this past weekend at 285. He will head into Salina with a record of 31-12.
Two Colby Seniors qualified for state in their final season as Eagles. Cade Lanning finished in fourth at 170 in Concordia this weekend, and will head into State with an overall record of 32-13 on the year. Rowdy Farr also performed well at regionals, claiming third place at 220 with by fall in his final match of the weekend. Farr and his record of 33-10 on the season will head into the State tournament poised for another strong showing.
The 2020 KSHSAA 4A State Wrestling Tournament will begin on Friday, February 28. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:45 AM, with wrestling action to follow at 10:00 AM. Friday gates will open at 8:00 AM.
Saturday action will begin at 9:00 AM, with gates set to open at 7:00 AM.
