Colby Takes 1st, Eagles & Goodland both Qualify for State Golf

The amazing season for the Colby Lady Eagle golf team continued on Monday winning the 321A Sub-State at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby. The Lady Eagles dominated on their home course placing all five golfers inside the top eight spots and extending their season long tournament winning streak.

Colby Star freshman Anna Starbuck was the top golfer of the day finishing in first place with low score of the day, 8-over 84.  Starbucks teammates were not far behind. Brinley Sims placed 3rd with a 94.  Mya Betz finished in 5th, Jalyn Sabatka placed 6th and Lacy Weigel finished in 8th.

Colby as a team shot a combined 371, 26 strokes better than second place Cimarron. Goodland, who also qualified for state, finished third shooting a 441 just six strokes better Plainville. Oakley, the other area school their took 8th place.

As for Goodland, their top golfer was senior Jazlyn who placed tied for 13th.  Jenitsabeth Garza finished just two shots back of her teammate to place tied for 15th place. Other Cowgirl finishers included Alison Sheldon who took 19th.  Ariane McCary took 25th & Ashtin McClung finished in 40th.

Oakley was led by junior Sydney Ryan finished in 19th place, just two places out from qualifying for state individually.  Taylor Maxifield came in 37th, MaKenzie Mildenberger took 40th. Kylie Huelsman placed 44th and Jalyn Moore finished in 48th place.

Colby & Goodland teams will compete this coming Monday & Tuesday at the 321A State Golf Tournament in Cheney at Cherry Oaks Golf Course.
