COLBY, Kan. — Colby Community College President Seth Carter, Director of Athletics Mike Saddler, and the City of Colby were proud to unveil the grand opening of “The Big Blue Barn,” on Thursday afternoon.
The brand new facility is the first of its kind on campus, allowing CCC Athletics the opportunity to advance their programs. The facility contains a full indoor court fit for basketball, volleyball, and wrestling, as well as a weight room, and an indoor turfed area, with netting for baseball and softball.
The facility was entirely privately funded by grant funds and donations. Not a single dollar came from tax payers to fund the facility.
Hundreds of visitors flocked to the facility’s ribbon cutting ceremony, crowding the turfed side of the building, where the baseball and softball teams will begin practicing in the very near future.
In front of the large crowd, the facility was unveiled, as well as dedicated, to a trio of Colby Community College legends, with a section memorializing each one.
The first, Colby College’s Head Baseball Coach Ryan Carter and the Ryan Carter Family Indoor Practice Facility.
Second, Colby Wrestling “GOAT” (greatest of all time), two-time Individual National Champion and team National Champion, as well as USA Olympic Wrestler, and Champion Mixed Martial Arts Fighter, Daniel Cormier, and the Cormier Family Practice Facility.
And finally, Colby Community College’s long-time Head Wrestling Coach Steve Lampe and the Steve Lampe Athletic Center.
Each of the three honorees were touched by the recognition, and excited about the future of Colby Community College’s Athletics. Their speeches can be viewed below:
