Colby Community College sophomore runner Wesley Banguria was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Male Athlete of the Week. The announcement came after Banguria posted a convincing win Saturday at the Colorado College Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.

His first race of the cross country season resulted in a dominating 8K win with a time of 25:04.8. He finished 54 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor and more than two minutes faster than he ran at the same meet last year.

Banguria is the first male athlete from Colby to earn USTFCCCA athlete of the week honors. In October 2017, the organization recognized Winnie Kibet on the women’s side.

The Trojan cross country teams are back in action Sept. 27 at the Emporia State Invitational.
