The Colby Community College baseball team wrapped up their first outright Jayhawk West championship in program history this past weekend by winning two of four games at Barton Community College.
The Trojans finished the regular season with a 38-14 overall record, 23-9 in KJCCC league play.
CCC got off to a quick start in 2016, winning seven straight and nine out of their first ten games. One of those early season wins (against McCook CC) was the 500th victory for 18th year head coach Ryan Carter. In conference play, they never lost a series and won five of eight series…including 4-game sweeps against Pratt and Butler.
The Trojans have been led offensively this season by sophomore Marvin Malone. The Wyoming native is hitting .483 on the season (3rd in the conference) with 99 RBI (2nd) and 19 home runs (3rd). Sophomore pitchers Jeremy Gwinn and Hunter Ducorbier have been impressive on the mound, combining for 16 wins and over 180 strikeouts.
CCC is the #1 seed out of the Jayhawk West and will host either Labette or Coffeyville in a best two-out-of-three series this weekend in Colby. The series winner advances to play in the Region VI Championship Tournament, May 13-16 at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita.
This is the 18th consecutive post-season appearance for the Trojans under Coach Carter.
