Body of flood victim found in Norton County…and other headlines: September 6, 2016

Searchers find the body of a man who’d been swept away by floodwaters. Searchers found his body about a quarter-mile away from his vehicle. It’s believed he drove into high water on a county road in Norton County, and a treelimb broke the windshield, making it easier for water to flood the cabin of his car.
A man from Colorado is dead after running his motorcycle into the side of an SUV on I-70 near Goodland. He then lost control and rolled into the median. That man had a helmet on but died at the hospital. The man in the SUV wasn’t hurt.
Kansas Libertarians see the November elections as a possible springboard to more political prominence down the road, even though prospects for victory this year are slim. The party would earn “major party” status in Kansas if a Libertarian candidate in the 2018 governor’s race gets at least 5 percent of the vote. That would mean fewer restrictions on ballot access and the ability to take part in August primaries.
Government officials find only minor to moderate damage from the weekend earthquake in Oklahoma that was felt across a big chunk of Kansas. That 5.6 earthquake was just across the state line, and none of the damage reports are in Kansas.
Police in Kansas City, Kansas look for whoever set a school playground on fire, causing roughly $50-thousand in damage. No clear motive in the case.
Wichita police arrest a man they accuse of assaulting an officer and a firefighter at a joint station for the agencies. It started when he drove erratically into the parking lot and nearly hit both men, then got into a fight with them. He faces a slew of charges now.
